Guest Entertainment "For Funsies”

When it comes to wedding planning, entertainment might seem like the cherry on top, but it can actually be one of the biggest memory makers for your guests! In this episode of 52 ’Til I Do, we’re diving into the world of wedding entertainment. From photo booths and live artists to tarot readers, we’re breaking down all the fun, interactive, and unique experiences that can add a little extra magic to your big day.

Phase 2 of your wedding planning journey is all about locking in your main vendors. By week 22, you’ve likely booked your key players, so now it’s time to have a little fun and start exploring some entertainment focused vendors to bring in those “ for funsies” moments!

What Are We Even Talking About?

When we talk about entertainment and extra vendors, we’re talking about the fun additions that enhance your guest experience. These are the elements that go beyond the essentials. Think things like photo booths, live painters, content creators, and live tarot readers.  They're all about adding that little extra to your big day!

Entertainment On A Budget And Prioritizing What You Want

If you’ve been following along with our Marryment Planning Guide, you’ll know that about 5–10% of your budget is typically allocated for music and entertainment. That usually works out to around $2,000–$4,000 based on the national average spend in Chicago and the Chicagoland area. If your budget leans closer to $2,000, you’ll likely need to prioritize music, as there may not be much wiggle room for additional entertainment extras. But, prioritize is the big word in this situation. When planning out the entertainment for the big day, it’s important to prioritize what matters most to you and your partner.  If you’ve always dreamed of having a live band at your reception, make that a top priority! On the other hand, if music isn’t your main focus and you’re more focused on the extras like a live painter or photo booth, go for it. It’s all about making and prioritizing what you want.

From Pinterest Board to Real Life

So, you know what kind of entertainment you want for your wedding, but how do you actually make it happen and find the right vendors? One of our favorite ways is by attending a wedding expo (also known as a bridal show or wedding fair). These big events bring together a large range of wedding vendors and services, all in one place. Going to an expo with your loved ones can introduce you to different entertainment options you may not have thought of, giving you an opportunity to see them in action, and ask questions.

But what if you already have an idea of what you want? Let’s say you and your partner know you want a live painter at your wedding, but you're not sure where to find one. One of the best places to start is by asking your Marryment coordinator. We have a curated list of trusted, reliable vendors for all kinds of services, and we can help you when it comes to finding exactly what you’re looking for, quickly and confidently. If this doesn’t lead to the most perfect fit, another great option you have is to chat with your venue or photographer, who often have large networks and great recommendations as well.  And if all else fails, doing your own research is a great route to go on too!

You Don't Need Vendors To Have Fun!

Wedding entertainment doesn’t always have to be a big thing, or come with a big price tag. Some of the most fun, memorable moments come from the little touches you plan yourself. And the best part? They’re often way more personal and affordable! Take disposable cameras, for example. Set a few out on tables or create a little photo station. You'll end up with a bunch of cute photos that you probably wouldn’t have gotten otherwise. Guest books are another fun one to get creative with. Instead of just signatures, try something like recorded voice messages, a polaroid guest wall, or little notes for you to open on future anniversaries. And if your wedding is outdoors (or even just has a bit of open space), yard games like giant Jenga, cornhole, or ring toss are always a hit. You could even set up a small DIY/ Craft station! Maybe flower crowns, temporary tattoos, or something crafty for the kiddos. It gives everyone a little something to do, especially during cocktail hour or open dance.

Bottom line: you don’t need to hire a big entertainment team to keep your guests happy. With a little creativity, you can make your wedding feel even more personal, and way more fun, while saving a bit of money in the process.

Final Thoughts

The moral of the story is that it’s your big day, which means you get to do whatever the heck you want! Whether that means going all out, or keeping stuff  simple and personal, the most important thing is that it feels like you and your loved one! So have fun, make it memorable, and have so much fun while you plan out your big day!
